Students in Pearl Bailey’s Prescott Junior High history classes were gifted individual pocket size copies of The Constitution of the United States by our local DAR chapel (Daughters of the American Revolution) to be used during the annual national Constitution Week September 17 - 23. After reading about requirements to serve in the three branches of governments, students concentrated their studies on the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution. They were able to comprehend how the Bill of Rights limits the power of the federal government. Our students were especially fascinated by the first five amendments: Amendment 1: Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition Amendment 2: Right to keep and bear arms Amendment 3: No quartering of soldiers Amendment 4: Freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures Amendment 5: Right to due process of law, freedom from self-incrimination, double jeopardy Comprehension of the Bill of Rights is of utmost importance in creating good citizens, which is a goal of the History Department at Prescott Junior High.

PES students LOVE when they have a visit from Sparky and our local fire and rescue friends! Special thanks to the Fairhills Volunteer Fire Department, Redland Fire Department, Nevada County Fire & Rescue and Arkansas Forestry division. We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to come teach our kids about fire safety!
